Terms of Service

Last updated: July 8, 2026

Welcome to MyCiter. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the MyCiter desktop application, website, and related synchronization services. By accessing or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Use of Our Services

MyCiter provides reference management software and synchronization services designed for researchers, students, and academics.

  • Eligibility: You must be at least 13 years old to use MyCiter.
  • Accounts: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.
  • Software Updates: The desktop app may automatically download and install updates to improve performance, fix bugs, or add features.

2. User Data and Privacy

Your privacy is of paramount importance to us. How we collect, use, and protect your data is detailed in our Privacy Policy.

Data Ownership Commitment

You retain full ownership of all research libraries, citation files, and PDF documents you upload or manage using MyCiter. As defined in our Privacy Policy, we will never sell or share your personal data or research information with third parties without your explicit consent.

3. Subscriptions, Payments, and Refunds

Certain features of MyCiter require a paid subscription:

  • Billing: Subscription payments are processed securely through our third-party payment handlers. You agree to provide accurate and complete billing information.
  • Cancellations: You can cancel your paid subscription at any time. Upon cancellation, your account will revert to the Free tier, and cloud synchronization will stop. You will retain all local data.
  • Refunds: Payments are non-refundable except where required by law or as expressly specified in our billing policies.

4. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree not to misuse our services. Specifically, you will not:

  • Decompile, reverse engineer, or attempt to extract the source code of the desktop application (unless permitted under open-source licenses).
  • Use the synchronization services to store, share, or transmit copyright-infringing materials without proper authorization.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of our cloud servers or API endpoints.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other user accounts or systems.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

MyCiter is provided “as is” and “as available,” without any warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the application will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that your synced research data will be permanently immune to loss or corruption. We highly recommend keeping secondary backups of critical research.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MyCiter and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from your use of the software.

7. Changes to the Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. If a revision is material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you via the website or through the desktop app. By continuing to use the service after changes become effective, you agree to the revised Terms.
